Anarchy (from Greek: anarchíā, "without ruler") may refer to any of the following: Congressional reports indicate that half or more of the US population will be dead within a year from the anarchy following a major catastrophic event. That is when most of the casualties are realized, after the “event,” when anarchy spreads with riots, gangs, starvation, and even cannibalism. The government will be over-taxed and under-manned, and will not be there to help you in the event of a wide-scale disaster.
A period of lawlessness may prevail after any major interruption of services. This was evidenced in the Los Angeles Rodney King riots of 1992, where even the police retreated to safe harbor and left the entire community on their own, with no government protection. By the time the police, the U.S. Army, the Marines and the National Guard restored order, the casualties included 53 deaths, 2,383 injuries, more than 7,000 fires, damages to 3,100 businesses, and nearly $1 billion in financial losses. That was a localized event, triggered by an apparent unjust trial verdict. An economic collapse is a much more globally-severe crisis and would create a social anarchy that you will need to be prepared for.
Following an economic meltdown, the government will not be capable of providing adequate police and social support. Without extreme emergency measures, there will be hunger, sickness, death, and destruction everywhere you turn. Whether you’re going to be faced with gangs, thieves, or even ad-hoc militias, one way or another you will find yourself in a situation that requires years of experience and training in the proper countermeasures to stay alive. Your home and family will not be safe, but rather a target. Your house is practically a sore thumb that anybody can find and break into in order to steal your rations and supplies. Simply stated, anarchy will bring confusion, chaos and disorder that few have ever seen, or know how to deal with. It will be a case of the ‘haves’ versus the ‘have not’s’. If you have something of value, others will seek it out and take it, be it: food, water, fuel, gold, or guns…anything that will help someone survive is fair game for them. Even a small light in the dark will be a sign of your whereabouts and a signal that you have something – electricity, batteries, or fuel. Sooner or later, the ‘have not’s’ will arrive to take it.
Usually, the only way that you could avoid this, assuming you had the experience, knowledge, and means, is if you were to relocate to a remote shelter, one in which you would be almost completely secure from the outside world and could lock yourself in and be self-sustaining for an indefinite amount of time, hopefully up to a year in order to allow the passing of the general insanity. Even at this point, you would still need to find the right place to have this shelter. That always entails somewhere deep in the woods where it would be so hard to access, that nobody presumably would waste their time and resources trying to find you. But, rest assured they will, despite how much camouflage or stealthy measures you take, the ‘have not’s’ will eventually find you and take what is yours. Your life will be at risk with any attempt to defend yourself and what you have stocked up, thus you will need to let them take whatever little supply you may have. When you do, you are now the ‘have not’, and in time, will either turn to the same methods of scavenging for survival, or eventually perish.
To defend yourself, you would have to have an arsenal of guns and weapons, as well as anti-measures to hide and secure the few supplies you have stockpiled for your survival. Unless you have been properly trained in extreme survival measures, and combat tactics, it is highly unlikely that you would be prepared to adequately defend yourself.
To help resist this form of catastrophe, the Vivos shelters are designed like a modern day fortress, or citadel to withstand:
